Michael Andrew Johnson, Sr., of Providence, 61, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 14th, 2019 at Rhode Island Hospital with his wife by his side. He was born May 28th, 1957 to the late Archie R. Johnson Jr. and Carolyn F. Johnson Davis. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Karen Marie Johnson, as well as one son, Michael Andrew Johnson, Jr., and three daughters, Teondra Shurene Johnson, Tatiana Olivia Johnson, and Erica Michelle Johnson. He also leaves ten grandchildren: Tiana, Evonya, Michael, Jayden, Daijah, Tamel, Janiah, Isaac, Josiah, and Uriah.
In addition, Michael leaves behind an extensive family of 11 siblings - Roberta M. Tavares; Carol-Ann M. Johnson, Carolyn E. Silva; Barbara A. Johnson; Patricia L. Johnson; Joy M. Sissoko; Mandy L. Johnson; Shaira Johnson; Robert A. Johnson; Joey M. Johnson; and Rahaman Holley - and his family by marriage – Wilbert and Doris Dorsey; daughter-in-law Clariza; brothers-in-law Thomas Dorsey, Duane Dorsey, and Joseph Silva; and sisters-in-law Hope Johnson, Vera Dorsey, and Maria Dorsey.
Michael was preceded in death by five siblings: Leslie A. McClain; Archie R. Johnson III; Christopher J. Johnson; Mary V. Johnson; and David V. Johnson.
Michael worked as an Institutional Attendant of Psychiatric for 10 years at St. Joseph's Hospital and before that, for the State of Rhode Island for 21 years. In the 1970s, he worked as a crane operator on the offshore drilling rig, "The Ocean Ranger".
Michael was a lover of life. He had a great spirit and enjoyed spreading the Word of God. No matter what tribulations he faced, Michael never gave up. A man who always thought of others, Michael was a wonderful dad and grandfather; his children and grandchildren meant everything to him. He will be missed by all.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation on Saturday, March 23rd from 11:00am - 11:30am at the Keefe Funeral Home, Five Higginson Ave., Lincoln, followed by a funeral service at 11:30am. Burial will follow in North Burial Ground, Providence.
